FPS Academy: Mui Thai Kickboxing

The official martial art of Thailand, roughly translated as the "Art of Eight Limbs," combines some of the most powerful knees, elbows, kicks, and clench-work the martial arts world has to offer. The emphasis on complete rotation of the hips with each strike allows fighters to utilize all of their body's muscle groups and momentum with each strike.

Traditionally, a majority of Mui Thai fights in the formative years were a battle of attrition where fighters traded blows until one went down. Although that approach was abandoned with the modernization of the sport, the heavy emphasis on conditioning and core strength were preserved, offering Mui Thai practitioners a solid edge against less seasoned opponents.
